KTSM News – Escobar has big early lead in bid for new term

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — U.S. Rep. Veronica Escobar has a big early lead in her bid for a fourth term in the U.S. House of Representatives after early voting totals were announced at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7.

Escobar, D-Texas, has 97,258 votes or 60.26 percent to lead in Texas Congressional District 16.

Republican challenger Irene Armendariz Jackson has 63,871 votes or 39.57 percent.

This is the third consecutive election they have faced off.

D. “DMB” Montanez is writing as a declared write-in candidate. He has 277 votes.

Escobar was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2018 and has gone on to leadership roles within her party. She serves as a co-chair for Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign, a position she also held under President Joe Biden.

Escobar’s district consists of virtually all of El Paso, except for part of Fort Bliss and part of far East El Paso.

Before being elected to Congress, Escobar served as an El Paso County commissioner and then as county judge.
