EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — All evacuation orders for the Trout Fire were lifted on Thursday morning, June 26, and residents are encouraged to remain alert and stay informed on changing weather conditions, the Southwest Area Complex Incident Management Team said in an update.
The Trout Fire, which is burning in the Gila National Forest north of Silver City, remains at 47,121 acres with 41 percent containment and over 1,000 personnel. The cause of the fire was ruled to be lightning, according to the incident management team.
The incident management team says that as fire activity slows, the team is right-sizing the response, and personnel are starting to demobilize in preparation for the team to close out early next week.
“This strategic adjustment ensures that staffing levels match operational needs of the incident while maintaining the capability to respond should conditions change,” the incident management team said.
Firefighters continue to patrol and monitor containment lines across the fire and extinguish any remaining heat near the fire’s edge. Suppression repair is also taking place across the fire, and the process is being carried out in coordination with resource advisors.
“These individuals have specialized skills and knowledge to provide crews with the guidance necessary to ensure that repair work aligns with the needs of impacted resources. Firefighters are addressing areas impacted by fireline construction, rehabilitating handline, restoring natural drainage patterns, and reducing long-term erosion risks. Crews are also mending fences, completing chipping operations, and utilizing slash debris to assist in soil stabilization,” the incident management team said.
The Commons, in collaboration with the Gila Community Foundation, is now coordinating the donation bank. Supply pick-up/drop-off is located at 1016 N. Silver Street, Silver City, NM.
Financial donations are accepted by the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army.
