EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Fort Bliss officials want to remind the public and people who live and work on the post that the installation will be subject to a wide-scale power outage as part of an exercise this week.
During the Black Start Exercise, which will happen sometime this week between March 10-16, Fort Bliss will be “testing its emergency and standby energy generation systems, key infrastructure, and equipment,” according to a news release sent out by the post.
The outage will last eight to 12 hours. The date the exercise is not being released to keep its surprise element intact, according to the news release.
“The exercise will affect a wide array of facilities and services. Everyone on the installation should prepare accordingly and expect delays in services. Drivers should exercise caution and respond to any intersections with disabled traffic lights as they would a four-way stop sign,” according to the news release.
The exercise, which is directed from the Department of Defense, will be used to “identify areas needing additional resources across the installation, to help be better prepared and more resilient going forward,” according to the release.
