EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Las Cruces Police Department is warning residents to be aware of fake GoFundMe accounts that appear to be using the Young Park shooting in Las Cruces to scam residents.
Police say they have discovered several fake GoFundMe accounts that are currently circulating online after last Friday’s shooting at Young Park in Las Cruces.
Those who wish to donate are encouraged to properly vet or evaluate the source before donating, police said.
Anyone with information on illegitimate crowdfunding platforms should report those accounts through the platform’s reporting process.
The Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico has established a legitimate fundraising initiative to help victims and their families. Information on the Las Cruces Crisis Action Fund can be found by clicking here.
