EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Seasonal closures and modified operating hours for recreational areas are taking effect across the Lincoln National Forest as the fall season approaches.
The South Fork Fire has also resulted in closures of several sites in the Smokey Bear Ranger District which will remain in effect during the winter season.
Smokey Bear District
Three Rivers Campground: Open Year-Round
Baca Campground: Open Year Round
Oak Grove Campground: Closed due to South Fork Fires
Skyline Campground: Closes after first significant snowfall
South Fork Campground: Closed due to South Fork Fires
Sam Tobias Memorial Group Campground: Closed due to South Fork Fires
Sam Tobias Picnic Area: Fee Area open
Schoolhouse Picnic Area: Fee Area Open
Sacramento District
Apache Campground: Closed as of Sept. 3
Sleepy Grass Campground: Closed as of Sept. 3
Aspen Group Campground: Closed as of Sept. 8
Black Bear Group Campground: Closed as of Sept. 8
Slide Group Campground: Closes Sept. 30
Upper Fir Group Campground: Closes Sept. 30
Deerhead Campground: Closes Oct. 10
Silver Campground and Ampitheater: Closes Oct. 10
Silver Overflow: Closes Oct. 10
Guadalupe District
Sitting Bull Falls Recreation Area Fall Hours: Oct. 1 – March 1: Open 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Monday, entry gate is closed at 3:30 p.m.
Dispersed camping is available year-round and free of charge on the Lincoln National Forest. Designated campgrounds are scheduled to reopen in the spring.
