NEW YORK (WPIX) – The family of Luigi Mangione, the 26-year-old man accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in New York City, has released a statement following his arrest on Monday.
“Our family is shocked and devastated by Luigi’s arrest. We offer our prayers to the family of Brian Thompson and we ask people to pray for all involved. We are devastated by this news,” Delegate Nino Mangione, the suspect’s cousin, said in the statement.
Luigi Mangione was apprehended earlier in the day after being spotted at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania. He was found to be in possession of a ghost gun, ammunition, and a silencer, according to a criminal complaint.

He also provided police with a fake New Jersey driver’s license, the document stated.
Late Monday, Manhattan prosecutors filed murder and other charges against Luigi Mangione, according to an online court docket.
He was also charged in Pennsylvania with possession of an unlicensed firearm, forgery and providing false identification to police. He remains in jail.
Pennsylvania officials said they plan to file a fugitive of justice complaint to extradite Mangione to New York.
