EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A former New Mexico State Police officer was sentenced to 18 years in prison on Thursday, July 11, for sexually abusing a child, according to the Third Judicial District Attorney’s Office for the State of New Mexico.
Ronald Jackson, 55, was found guilty by a Las Cruces jury and convicted of one count of criminal sexual penetration of a child under the age of thirteen.
The Third Judicial District Attorney’s Office says allegations of sexual assault that occurred when the victim was 14-years-old were reported to CPS in April 2020.
The victim was in the 4th grade when the abuse began and continued for over two years. Jackson was also found to be stalking the victim on social media for over a year, according to the Third Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
The investigation led to detectives discovering that Jackson had been fired by New Mexico State Police for inappropriate behavior with female co-workers and was terminated from the correctional facility for inappropriate touching. Jackson was also fired for an alleged rape charge on an inmate at the prison, according to the Third Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
Charges for the rape were dropped due to the female inmate dying while she was incarcerated, according to the Third Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
