EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – The Gail fire burning in Otero County is now 10 percent contained, and communities were placed back to “set” status from “go,” meaning evacuations have been lifted on Thursday, March 20, the New Mexico State Forestry Division said.
The Forestry Division said the fire, which is 238 acres, was discovered shortly after 3:20 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18, and is located two miles west of Mayhill, New Mexico.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, the Forestry Division said.
“Today, crews will work on securing interior hot spots in anticipation of raising containment by the end of today’s operational shift,” read the news release by the Forestry Division.
The Forestry Division, Smokey Bear, Silver City, Sacramento Hotshots, Lincoln National Forest, and volunteer fire departments are working to contain the fire with 92 personnel present, according to the news release.
