EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A much-anticipated court hearing for an El Paso man convicted in a series of 1987 murders lasted about 10 minutes on Monday, Sept. 15.
A status hearing had been set for convicted serial killer David Leonard Wood who is appealing his 1992 murder conviction and death sentence.
Wood, now 68, was convicted of killing six girls and young women and burying them in the desert in Northeast El Paso. He has been on death row since 1993.
Monday’s hearing was held virtually and was supposed to set a schedule for motions and future hearings.
According to El Paso Matters, the judge and attorneys are waiting on Texas’ highest criminal court to provide more direction on what issues it wants examined.
The Texas Attorney General’s Office, which is representing the state, filed a motion with the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals last month asking that the court provide more guidance on the issues that need to be examined, El Paso Matters reported.
From the beginning, Wood has insisted on his innocence.
