KTSM News – Holiday schedule for household waste collections

Posted on November 21, 2024

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – The City of El Paso Environmental Department (ESD) is reminding residents of its holiday schedule for curbside collections, the City announced in a news release.

Curbside collections

In observation of the holiday, the department will NOT collect trash or recycling bins on Thursday, Nov. 28, and Friday, Nov. 28.

Gray bins (trash): Collection will occur on Monday, Dec. 2 as a make-up day.

Blue bins (recycling): Blue bins will not be collected. Residents should wait until their next scheduled collection day for recyclables to roll out blue bins.

To check your collection schedule, download the free “ESD Works For You” app or visit ElPasoTexas.gov/ESD.

Landfill and citizen collection stations

The Greater El Paso Landfill and Citizen Collection Stations (CCS), waste drop-off sites, will be closed Thursday, Nov. 28 through Sunday, Dec. 1, in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, the City said.

All facilities will reopen on Monday, Dec. 2, to assist residents with disposing of extra household waste.

Locations:

Greater El Paso Landfill, 2600 Darrington

Central CCS, 2492 Harrison

Eastside CCS, 3510 Confederate

Mission Valley CCS, 2034 Pendale

Northeast CCS, 4501 Hondo Pass

Westside CCS, 121 Atlantic

The department is also offering helpful tips to properly dispose of household waste from Thanksgiving celebrations.

Turkey grease recycling

To prevent clogs and plumbing issues, residents are encouraged to avoid pouring turkey grease or cooking oil down the drain. Instead, dispose of turkey grease and cooking oil at any Citizen Collection Station, the City said.

No water bill is required to drop off grease, oil, or recyclable materials.

A water bill and matching ID are required for disposing of hazardous household waste, bulky items, or other extra household waste.

For more information, call (915) 212-6000 or visit ElPasoTexas.gov/ESD.
