EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 26-year-old homeless woman was arrested and charged with arson after causing a structure fire, according to the Alamogordo Police Department.
Talya Hodge, 26, from Alamogordo, has been charged with one count of negligent arson, a fourth-degree felony, Alamogordo Police said.
She has been taken to the Otero County Detention Center and is waiting to appear in Otero County Magistrate Court.
Minutes after 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 13, Alamogordo Police, Alamogordo Fire and American Medical Response Alamogordo were dispatched to 1401 South White Sands Blvd. in reference to a possible structure fire.
According to police, fire crews saw heavy smoke coming from the structure’s north side and located a fire in a room on the first floor.
Crews suppressed the fire with assistance from the Otero County Emergency Services and Holloman Fire Department.
Police later located Hodge, who was seen leaving the area of the fire, and later admitted to officers that she started the fire, according to Alamogordo Police.
Alamogordo Police did not say if there were any injuries in the fire or how severe the damage was to the structure.
