EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – A 19-year-old man was arrested and charged with reckless driving and evading arrest/detention in a motor vehicle after fleeing police trying to conduct a traffic stop, and crashing into a rock wall Tuesday morning, Jan. 16 in Horizon City.
At 11:26 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, an officer with the Horizon City Police Department, who was conducting traffic enforcement on Eastlake Boulevard, observed two vehicle driving at a high rate of speed, both over 100 mph.
Horizon City Police says the unit attempted to conduct a traffic stop on both vehicles at which point they began evading the officer by swerving in and out of lanes and running a red light at the intersection of Eastlake and Darrington.
The officer disregarded the vehicles due to the reckless driving but observed the direction of travel on one of the vehicles.
Assisting officers checked the area of where the vehicle was last seen and discovered it had crashed into a wall at 600 Emerald Sands in El Paso. A witness state seeing the driver, Ramon Garcia Gomez, 19, lose control and crash into a rock wall, according to Horizon City Police
Officers were unable to locate the second vehicle, which Horizon Police are describing as a black Chevrolet Camaro.
Gomez was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility and charged with reckless driving with a $1,000 bond and evading arrest/detention in a motor vehicle with a $10,000 bond.
Additionally, Gomez posted bond the same day Tuesday, Jan. 16 and has been released, according to jail records.
