EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Braden Aboud Memorial Foundation will give new pairs of athletic shoes, socks, and backpacks to hundreds of students at Aoy Elementary School on Tuesday, April 29, the foundation said in a news release.
The foundation said this year’s recipient of the Spring B Strong Shoe Giveaway is Aoy Elementary School in the El Paso Independent School District.
This event marks the 24th campus visit, presented by the Braden Aboud Foundation and sponsored by the Anchondo Law Foundation and Robert E. and Evelyn McKee Foundation, according to the news release.
Since 2008, the foundation has put over 14,000 new, name-brand athletic shoes on children’s feet across 20 campuses in the El Paso, Gadsden, Ysleta, Canutillo, and Socorro Independent School Districts, according to the foundation.
The foundation said that every year, at least one elementary school is selected to be the recipient of the giveaway, and every student in the school “earns” a pair of shoes through the Earn It program by demonstrating good sportsmanship and character.
“It is really special for us to take this event back to where it all started in 2008. We are excited to provide shoes and other goods to the Cubs at Aoy,” Cindi Aboud, the foundation director, said. “In memory of our son, Braden, and in his spirit, we give every child at each campus a pair of new athletic shoes so they can compete at the best of their ability and to keep everyone on the same playing field.”
