McALLEN, Texas (Border Report) — Immigration and Customs Enforcement is detaining the immigrants since the first Trump administration, according to new data.
There were 51,302 people in ICE detention facilities nationwide as of June 1, according to new data released by Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC). That’s the most since September 2019, during the first Trump administration when ICE detentions capped at 50,000, TRAC reports.

At the time, ICE operated more detention facilities — a total of 213.Today, ICE operates 155 detention centers, which is up from 107 when Trump took office in late January.
Texas has had the most ICE detainees so far in Fiscal Year 2025, with 12,511, according to data as of May 27.

The Adams County Detention Facility in Natchez, Mississippi, however, held the most immigrants — 2,168 per day in May. Only 13 facilities report holding over 1,000 immigrants, including 1,659 at the the South Texas ICE Processing Center located in Pearsall, Texas.
Of the 51,302 being held, 22,438, or 44%, have no criminal record, according to TRAC.
In May, 28,797 people were arrested and booked into ICE detention facilities, with the overwhelming majority — 23,564, arrested by ICE officers, TRAC says.
