KTSM News – IDEA Mesa Hills welcomes 1st-ever senior class

Posted on August 4, 2025

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — IDEA Public Schools in El Paso welcomed back over 6,000 students on Monday, Aug. 4, at 10 schools across the city. And one school in particular made history by welcoming its first 12th-grade students, according to a news release by IDEA.

IDEA Mesa Hills College Preparatory opened in 2019, offering grades kindergarten through second and sixth grade, and added a grade level each year until fully scaled, K-12th.

“The graduating class of 2026 began their journey as 6th graders and are set to fulfill IDEA’s mission of going to and through college by completing over 11 AP courses, career tech courses, and visiting over 15 colleges and universities,” read the news release.

According to the news release, IDEA Mesa Hills is one of the five campuses in IDEA El Paso, and is the only campus located on the west side of the city.

“Welcoming our first-ever class of seniors is an incredibly proud and emotional milestone for our campus,” Norman Candelaria, principal of IDEA Mesa Hills College Prep, said. “These students have grown with us since sixth grade, and watching them step into their final year is a powerful reminder of why we do what we do. They are not only trailblazers for our school, but a shining example of IDEA’s commitment to preparing all students for success in college and beyond.”

Throughout the year, IDEA Mesa Hills will commemorate this historic senior class with a series of celebrations, including “senior sunrise,” class photos, College Signing Day event in Spring, and more, according to the news release.

Additionally, IDEA Mesa Hills hosted a senior breakfast at 9:30 a.m. on Monday to welcome and celebrate the new class.
