EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Local health officials are reminding parents to get their children’s recommended vaccinations as soon as possible with fall being right around the corner.
Immunize El Paso said with schools back in session, the chances for children to come into contact with preventable diseases increases.
“Right now, we have a campaign called ‘Back-to-School Vaccinate Now’. We are urging parents to come into one of our three clinics at Immunize El Paso because when they get to school, when school starts, they ask that their children be vaccinated against specific vaccines and if they don’t have those vaccinations, then they’re not allowed to start the first day of class,” said Cristina Rodda, spokesperson with Immunize El Paso
Rodda said the vaccines children are required to get depend on their age, but staff at the center can assist in looking up that information.
“We have a record system from the state that tells us which vaccines are necessary. So, if parents don’t know, go ahead and bring your children in and we can tell them which vaccines they need at what age. Now, the vaccines that are usually taken are against measles, whooping cough, against respiratory and bacterial infections and against polio. Those are the most common that children, school age children have to take,” Rodda said.
Immunize El Paso takes appointments and accepts walk-ins. More information on what types of vaccines the clinic offers can be found on its website.
