KTSM News – Iran claims strikes were not successful

Posted on June 26, 2025

WASHINGTO (NEXSTAR) – The Senate will hear from top national security officials later Thursday as many lawmakers question whether President Donald Trump’s strikes against Iranian nuclear facilities were successful.

President Trump continues to push back against an intelligence leak that suggests Iran’s nuclear sites were not destroyed but lawmakers want proof.

“Like, ‘Oh, gee. There was hardly any damage.’ The things are decimated,” said Trump.

President Trump defends his decision to strike three Iranian nuclear sites despite a leaked intelligence report suggesting the attack only set back Iran’s nuclear program by several months.

“The site was obliterated just like I said it was,” said Trump.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth launched an investigation into the leak and characterized the report as a low confidence assessment in its early stages.

“If you want to make an assessment of what happened at Fordow, you better get a big shovel and go really deep,” said Hegseth.

On Capitol Hill White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the leaker should go to jail, “Because it’s an illegal leak.”

Democrats, including California Congressman Ro Khanna, want proof of the destruction and warn the U.S. strikes only emboldened Iran.

“It has hardened the resolve in Iran to now race toward a nuclear weapon,” said Khanna.

Texas Congressman Greg Casar worries what that could mean for the tens of thousands of U.S. troops stationed in the Middle East.

“Enough. No more wars,” said Casar.

The House plans to get a similar classified briefing from the White House Friday.
