EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A senior at Jefferson Silva High School will be exchanging her soccer cleats for heels as she competes in the Miss Teen Universe Mexico competition this weekend.
Venezia Martinez was crowned as Teen Universe Chihuahua 2024 in December and will represent the state of Chihuahua at the Miss Teen Universe Mexico competition, which is set to take place from Feb. 25 to March 1, according to the El Paso Independent School District in a news release.

The competition will feature 30 other state representatives from across Mexico.
According to EPISD, Martinez was born and raised in the Sun City and competing in the pageant reflects her pride in her community and her family roots in Mexico.
Outside of the pageant world, Martinez plays on Jefferson’s varsity soccer team and is an exemplary student-athlete, EPISD said.

Martinez recently earned a certification as an electrocardiogram (EKG) technician through a specialized program at Jefferson, the school district said.
After graduating high school, Martinez plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences at the University of Texas at El Paso and later attend medical school to become a pediatrician.
“I want to help people and make a difference in this world,” Martinez said. “Being in the medical field has always been a passion of mine and I thank El Paso ISD and this program at Silva High School for giving me this opportunity.”
“We are incredibly proud of Venezia’s accomplishments,” Jefferson High School Principal Edgar Rincon said. “She embodies the spirit of determination, academic excellence, and community pride. We know she will continue to make El Paso ISD proud on the national stage.”
