KTSM News – La Nube celebrates grand opening to sold-out crowd

Posted on August 10, 2024

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — La Nube, Downtown El Paso’s new children’s museum and STEAM center, officially opened its doors Saturday morning, Aug. 10 to a sold-out crowd.

The grand opening was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and block party along Main Street, which is now a pedestrian zone.

“Standing here today, I can’t help but feel that anything is possible in El Paso when our community comes together. Because today, we aren’t just celebrating the opening of a world-class museum where families will make memories and kids will be inspired, we are also celebrating a place that will put El Paso on the map and contribute to our increasingly vibrant Downtown,” said Josh Hunt, chairman of La Nube’s Board of Directors.

La Nube is one of many projects from the 2012 voter-approved quality-of-life bond, and its opening had been highly-anticipated by the Borderland.

“Today is a momentous day for our community, a day our community has waited 12 long years for,” said Stephanie Otero, Interim CEO for La Nube.

The state-of-the-art facility is four-stories tall, and has nine different themed zones that will feature 20 exhibits.

“We really hope to be a beacon of inclusion, equity and access. We’ve really tried to be thoughtful about how every guest can feel welcome every day,” Otero said.

La Nube’s most distinct and premiere attraction will be the “Anything’s Possible Climber,” 50-feet tall and four stories high, that’s themed around geometric shapes.

“Kids can slide, crawl, switch-back all the way through it, and we even have an early-childhood area on the bottom so that younger kiddos can build up confidence to get into the larger climber, and the climber is built so that adults also can climb and have fun,” Otero said.

“But La Nube is much more than a children’s museum. It offers people of all ages a place to continue to learn, engage and fuel the imagination that we all harbor. Having explored the exhibits up close, I can definitely report that any adult who hasn’t lost their capacity for curiosity and wonder is going to have a lot of fun inside these walls,” Hunt said.

The museum anticipates a high demand for admission and encourages guests to purchase tickets online.

La Nube is located at 601 N. Oregon St. in Downtown El Paso.

It is described as a public-private partnership of the El Paso Community Foundation, the City of El Paso, and other community leaders.

Ticket prices range from $14 for children and $18 for adults, with senior and active-duty discounts available.
