KTSM News – Largest agave collection prepares to be showcased in Downtown El Paso

Posted on October 17, 2024

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Plaza Hotel Pioneer Park is welcoming a new addition to its property.

Launching on Monday, Oct. 21, the Agave Tasting Room will open its doors to the El Paso community and guests.

According to a news release from the Plaza, the venue is set to be the largest agave spirits collection in North America. The 14-seat room will feature 800 unique agave spirits including tequilas, mezcals, sotols, bacanoras and raicillas.

“We want people to experience the agave spirit with food and learn how to pair those together, and how to eat and drink those enjoyably. So, it’s really a little bit of learning because we walk you through, how do you sip, how do you decide what spirit goes with what food,” Sabrina Guerrero, director of marketing and sales at the Plaza Hotel said.

“I think with all the experiences that we put together here we want to make it enjoyable for locals… but we also want people to come in from all over the nation. Already we see people traveling from Germany, from Japan, from China, because they’re doing business here,” Guerrero said.

The opening lands on National Mezcal Day where the Agave Room will host a dinner and agave tasting. The rest of the week will also feature similar tastings:

Tuesday, Oct. 22: Soledad/Socorro Dinner

Wednesday, Oct. 23: Clase Azul Dinner

Thursday, Oct. 24: Patron Dinner

Friday, Oct. 25: Felipe Camarena Dinner

These events will run from 7 to 9 p.m., with tickets selling for $175 per person. You must be 21 or older to attend.

Afterward, the Agave Room’s hours will vary based on events. Tasting dinners will take place from 7 to 10 p.m., with agave spirits tasting happening every Thursday from 4 to 5 p.m. starting in December.

Dinners are priced at $175 per person, with spirits tastings priced at $50.
