EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 32-year-old man was identified and arrested for shoplifting after video posted to social media showed a theft at a retail store, Las Cruces Police said.
Las Cruces Police have arrested David Alan Leonard, 32, for shoplifting more than $500 from a shoe store in Las Cruces.
With the assistance from Retail Asset Protection partners, the Community Outreach Unit of LCPD identified Leonard as the masked individual responsible for the series of thefts, Las Cruces Police said.
The investigation, which spanned several months, revealed that the shoplifter would enter retail stores multiple times a day while concealing his face with a mask. Investigators will continue collaborating with retail businesses to identify each incident and pursue charges based on the total value of the stolen goods, Las Cruces Police said.
A felony arrest warrant was issued for Leonard. He was locatred and arrested without incident, Las Cruces Police said.
It is believed that the shoplifter is working with a local organized retail theft group, so the investigation will remain open, Las Cruces Police said.
