KTSM News – Las Cruces PD to discuss public safety during town-hall meeting

Posted on January 19, 2025

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Las Cruces Police Department (LCPD) will host an “interactive” town-hall meeting this week on public safety issues.

The town-hall meeting will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23 at Council Chambers at Las Cruces City Hall, 700 N. Main St. The meeting is anticipated to last about two hours.

“The legislative session is about to start, and there is hope that meaningful change can happen with our community’s help,” LCPD Chief Jeremy Story said. “Waiting won’t work. It’s time to address crime, untreated mental illness and addiction.”

Story will begin the meeting by briefly presenting crime statistics from 2024.

“Information will also be presented on how competency, pre-trial detention and a lack of accountability have created a perfect storm in Las Cruces,” the Police Department said in a news release.

The meeting will serve as an opportunity for residents to connect with LCPD officials, gain insight on the topics, ask questions and contribute to the ongoing efforts to help promote a safer community, police said.

Las Cruces police encourage residents and business owners to attend and provide their feedback.

For those who cannot make it in-person, the meeting will be televised live on CLCTV, Comcast Cable channel 20-SD and 928-HD. The meeting will also be livestreamed on the City’s YouTube channel and on the Las Cruces Police Department’s Facebook page.
