EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Las Cruces Police are asking for your help as they investigate the suspicious death of a man found near a bus stop on Thursday afternoon, June 12, Las Cruces Police said.
About 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Las Cruces Police and Fire responded to several 911 calls regarding a man lying face down near a bus stop on East Lohman Avenue, between Nacho Drive and Foothills Road, near the ramp to the Las Cruces Dam recreation area.
Officers and emergency medical personnel found the man with visible injuries to his face and experiencing difficulty breathing, Las Cruces Police said.
First responders attempted lifesaving measures, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The dead man has been identified as Luther Lewis Gilbert, 63, of Las Cruces.
Detectives with the Las Cruces Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding Gilbert’s death and are asking the public for help.
Police are asking to speak with anyone who may have seen Gilbert on Thursday, witnesses who saw Gilbert at or near the bus stop before the medical emergency occurred, or anyone who may have known or recently interacted with Gilbert.
This is the second suspicious death that Las Cruces Police say they are investigating in the past week. Also Thursday, a man’s body was found near Lions Park in Las Cruces.
