EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Las Cruces Police Department will be conducting sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols during and after the Fourth of July holiday.
According to the news release by Las Cruces Police, at least one sobriety checkpoint and one saturation patrol will be conducted within city limits between June 26 and July 6.
The checkpoint and patrol are intended to “reduce and eliminate the number of motorists who drive while intoxicated or impaired,” the news release read.
So far in June, officers have conducted over 40 hours of targeted traffic enforcement, which resulted in 189 citations, according to Las Cruces Police.
Most of the citations issued were for speeding, failing to properly use seatbelts and operating a vehicle without the required liability insurance, Las Cruces Police said.
Las Cruces Police said they encourage those who plan on consuming alcohol during the holiday weekend to use a ride-share or have a designated driver, who will not be drinking alcohol, for their transport needs.
