EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – Las Cruces Police Department (LCPD) will conduct at least one sobriety checkpoint and one saturation patrol within city limits before the end of September, the department announced in a news release sent Thursday, Sept. 5.
LCPD said sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols are intended to reduce and eliminate the number of motorists who drive while intoxicated or impaired.
Those who plan on consuming alcoholic beverages are encouraged to utilize a ride-share or designated driver, someone who will not be drinking alcoholic beverages, for their transportation needs, according to LCPD.
LCPD said officers are also on the lookout for other traffic safety violations such as drivers using cell phones, and those who fail to properly utilize seatbelts and child safety seats.
