EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – The Las Cruces Police Department (LCPD) is investigating a stabbing incident that resulted in a 39-year-old man being seriously injured on early Saturday morning, June 14, along the 200 block of East Idaho Avenue.
LCPD said the victim, identified by police as a 39-year-old man, told officers he was sitting in his car shortly after midnight on Saturday, when someone approached and demanded the keys to his vehicle. The suspect then began stabbing the victim after his request was denied.
The victim was able to escape and ran to the nearby Walgreens store on El Paseo Road, where police and fire personnel met with the victim, LCPD said.
LCPD said the victim was airlifted to an El Paso hospital with serious injuries.
The victim described the suspect as an African-American man with a dark complexion. He is said to be about 5-foot-11-inches tall with short hair and a goatee. He was wearing an oversized black hoodie and dark pants, LCPD said.
In addition, the victim said the suspect spoke with a “Midwest or East Coast accent.”
