EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Las Cruces Fire Department (LCFD) helped saved a 24-year-old severely injured man who crashed his ATV in the desert on Tuesday, July 30.
At roughly 7 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to an undeveloped area at the far west end of Thurmond Rd., with reports of an ATV crash, according to LCFD.
Due to the rugged terrain, fire crews called in the Mesilla Valley Search and Rescue to use the utility task vehicle, equipped with a Stokes litter, according to LCFD.
According to LCFD, responders rescued the man, who sustained multiple injuries and was unconscious. He was in serious condition.
First responders had to carefully extract the driver from the terrain, transport to an awaiting medivac and was airlifted to the University Medical Center of El Paso, according to LCFD.
The cause of the ATV crash is still under investigation, according to LCFD.
