EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – Two 15-year-old students were arrested Thursday morning, Aug. 1 for possessing firearms at Organ Mountain High School, according to the Las Cruces Police Department (LCPD).
At about 10:40 a.m. Aug. 1, LCPD received information about two students believed to be in possession of firearms on campus.
LCPD said the school was placed on a brief shelter in place while police conducted the investigation.
The investigation resulted in two 15-year-old students, both boys, were found to be in possession of a firearm on campus. LCPD recovered one handgun from each student.
Both students were taken into custody and charged with unlawful carrying of a deadly weapon on school premises and unlawful possession of a handgun by a person under the age of 19, according to LCPD.
They were booked into the juvenile section of the Doña Ana County Detention Center.
LCPD said Task Force Officers with the FBI Safe Streets Gang Task Force will be pursuing federal prosecution on both students about firearms violations and narcotics trafficking.
