Posted on January 16, 2025

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Las Cruces Public Schools (LCPS) was awarded a $200,000 Dual Language grant to promote bilingualism and biliteracy, according to the school district on Thursday, Jan. 16.

The grant was awarded by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and will be distributed over the next 27 months, LCPS said.

“This grant will support the celebration of student achievements, foster collaboration with community partners and elevate the importance of bilingualism within our community,” LCPS said.

According to the school district, the funds will be used to enhance professional development for teachers, provide additional resources for students, improve communication with parents and stakeholders and celebrate students’ dedication to bilingualism.

The W.K. Kellogg Foundation awarded LCPS $160,000 in 2022 to “create and establish a clear dual language pathway for students in preschool to 12th grade,” the school district said.

In total, the W.K. Kellogg Foundation has invested $960,000 to LCPS to improve education in Doña Ana County in an effort to increase student learning, strengthen families and build healthier and more vibrant communities, LCPS said.
