EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Las Cruces Police Department and the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish are inviting kids of all ages to their free event, Fish with a Cop, next weekend.
The event will be held from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, June 7, at the Young Park pond, located at 1905 Nevada Ave.
According to the news release by the Las Cruces Police Department, children of all ages are welcome to join.
Kids who do not have a fishing tackle will be provided with one and taught how to cast a line, according to Las Cruces Police.
The event will also include skill stations, food, beverages and live music. Prizes will be awarded in various categories.
Las Cruces Police said participants are encouraged to be at Young Park pond by 8 a.m. to be paired with a law-enforcement officer or professional angler.
Parents or guardians are encouraged to accompany their child during the event.
Fish with a Cop is sponsored by New Mexico State Police, the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office, New Mexico State University Police, the Mesilla Marshal’s Office, New Mexico Desert Dogs, Matteo’s Authentic Mexican Food, Las Cruces First and Walmart.
