EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — With the new school year just around the corner, El Paso school districts, organizations, businesses, and others are providing free backpacks and school supplies for children in the area.
Here’s a list of school backpack giveaway events before the school year.
IDEA Public Schools in El Paso
The school district hosted the first of three school backpack giveaways this past Saturday and will be holding two more giveaways this month.
The first 500 children at each event will receive a backpack filled with school supplies, including rulers, pencils, highlighters, and more.

- From 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 19
- 15101 Edgemere Blvd.
- IDEA Mesa Hills Academy and College Preparatory
- From 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 26
- 405 Wallenberg Dr.
Guardians and parents must be present with a child to receive a backpack. IDEA Public School says the backpacks are open for all children in the community, and there is no limit to how many children in one family can receive a backpack.
Families can also enjoy different local vendor booths.
El Paso Community College
EPCC will provide 1,200 backpacks for students filled with school supplies throughout its annual School Store event, in partnership with the El Paso Community Foundation.

Fades Inc. Barbershop
The business will host a back-to-school giveaway from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, July 22, at Fades Inc. Barbershop at 1355 George Diter Dr., Suite 102.
The business will give away 20 backpacks filled with school supplies to kids in need. The first 12 kids to arrive will also receive a free back-to-school haircut.
