KTSM News – List of MLK Day closures in the Borderland

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Borderland will be seeing a list of closures with Martin Luther King Jr. Day coming up on Monday, Jan. 20.

Here’s a list of those closures:

City of Las Cruces

The following City offices and facilities will be closed observing MLK Day:

  • A Fielder Memorial Safe Haven
  • City Hall
  • East Mesa Recreation Center
  • Frank O’Brien Papen Community Center
  • Youth Development & Diversion Learning Center
  • Castaneda Parks & Recreation Administration Offices
  • KLCB
  • Las Cruces Museum System, including Branigan Cultural Center, the Museum of Art, the Museum of Nature and Science, and the Railroad Museum
  • Las Cruces Public Libraries, including Thomas Branigan Memorial Library and the branch library at Sage Café
  • Rio Grande Theatre
  • All Senior Programs facilities and services
  • South Central Solid Waste Authority administrative offices
  • Visit Las Cruces

These facilities and offices will be open on Monday with their operating hours:

  • The Las Cruces Natatorium, 1401 E. Hadley Ave., will be open from 7:30 a.m. to noon Monday, Jan. 20.
  • Las Cruces Regional Aquatic Center, 1401 E. Hadley Ave., will be open from 7:30 a.m. to noon Monday, Jan. 20.
  • Meerscheidt Recreation Center, 1600 E. Hadley Ave., will be open from 1 – 5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20.
  • Solid waste collection will occur Monday, Jan. 20, for residential and commercial customers who are scheduled for service that day.
  • The Foothills Landfill, 555 S. Sonoma Ranch Boulevard, will be open with normal business hours on Monday, Jan. 20.
  • RoadRUNNER Transit and Dial-A-Ride will operate with regular service levels from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20.
  • Curbside recycling service will be provided to those who are scheduled to have their recycling collected on Monday, Jan. 20.
  • The South Central Solid Waste Transfer Station, 2865 W. Amador Ave., the Corralitos Landfill, and Doña Ana County collection locations will operate as usual.

Doña Ana Community College

DACC campuses and centers will be closed Monday, Jan. 20, in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

Campuses and centers will reopen on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

El Paso Community College

El Paso Community College (EPCC) will not offer services (except for online registration for current students at self-service banner) on Monday, Jan. 20, in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

This holiday coincides with the beginning of the spring 2025 semester. The first day of classes is Tuesday, January 21, EPCC said.

Texas Tech Health El Paso

Texas Tech Health, including libraries, Texas Tech Physicians of El Paso clinics and the Texas Tech Dental Oral Health Clinic will be closed on Monday, Jan. 20 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The Community, Action, Research and Engaged Service group is organizing the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service with roughly 100 students volunteering at local non-profits, food bans and other community wellness events.

Doña Ana County

Doña Ana County’s administrative offices will close on Monday, Jan. 20 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Emergency services will not be affected and regular business hours for the administrations offices will resume at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

Socorro Independent School District

Socorro ISD will be closed on Monday, Jan. 20 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Classes will resume and schools and offices will re-open on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

El Paso County

All El Paso County administrative offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 20. Regular business hours will resume Tuesday, Jan. 21.

El Paso County Commissioners Court will meet in regular session at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 27.

CLOSED

  • All County Department’s Administrative Offices
  • El Paso County Courthouse
    OPEN
  • Ascarate Golf Course – 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
  • All County Parks – 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

City of El Paso

In observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday, the City of El Paso administrative offices will be closed on Monday, Jan. 20.

City Hall and all administrative offices will resume regular business hours on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

City Council Meetings

Due to the federal holiday, the City will host the City Council agenda review and work session meeting at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21. The regular City Council meeting will take place at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22.

Residential trash and recycling collection will not be affected by the holiday because trash is not collected on Mondays.

OPEN / SERVICE

  • Animal Services
    • Animals Services Center: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
    • Westside Adoption Center: Noon to 2 p.m.
    • Mission Valley Adoption Center: Noon to 2 p.m.
  • El Paso Zoo and Botanical Garden: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Sun Metro (regular schedule all routes, BRIO and LIFT services)
