KTSM News – Locomotive part ways with head coach Cabrera

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The El Paso Locomotive FC announced Monday, Nov. 3 that it is parting ways with head coach Wilmer Cabrera after two seasons.

The team announced that it was not renewing Cabrera’s contract.

Assistant coach Gerson Echeverry is also leaving the club as part of the change, the team announced.

“El Paso Locomotive FC expresses its sincere gratitude to Cabrera and Echeverry for their dedicated service to the club and wishes them and their families the best in their future endeavors,” the team said in a short news release.

Cabrera compiled a record of 20-22-20 with Locomotive over 62 matches and four competitions since his arrival in May 2024.

Cabrera was the team’s fourth head coach in franchise history.

When he was hired, Cabrera had nearly 20 years of coaching experience that included stints in Major League Soccer, USL Championship and with the United States Youth National Team. Cabrera also played professionally for 20 years, representing the Colombian Men’s National Team at two FIFA World Cups and four CONMEBOL Copa America tournanents between 1989-1998.

Details regarding the club’s next head coach will be announced at a later date.
