The teams participating in the 2024 Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl got an El Paso-styled welcome by the Sun Bowl Association upon the teams’ arrival at Atlantic Aviation.
It was a unique welcome reception as both teams arrived in El Paso at around the same time.
In years past, each team would get its own welcome reception, but with both teams arriving at nearly the same time on Thursday, there ended up just being one welcome reception for both teams.
Sun Bowl Association Executive Director Bernie Olivas said they’ve “never had two teams arrive at the same time.”
As part of the welcome reception festivities, both Louisville head coach Jeff Brohm and Washington head coach Jedd Fisch were given sombreros.
The mariachi and folklórico dancers put on a show for both teams and even got players in on the action by bringing them out to dance.
Both teams got a memorable welcome and are happy to be in El Paso for the 91st annual Sun Bowl game.
“Great welcome. We were not expecting this so this is a tremendous way to start off the week, so we are excited to experience it all,” Louisville head coach Jeff Brohm said. “This game has been around for a long time, and you can see why.”
“What a way to start your bowl trip,” Washington head coach Jedd Fisch said. “Let our kids experience tradition and different things we are not accustomed to and the culture here in El Paso, so we are excited to learn more about it.”
Louisville and Washington will go head-to-head in the 2024 Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl at the Sun Bowl Stadium on Tuesday, Dec. 31. Kickoff is at 12:00 p.m. MT.
