Posted on September 2, 2024

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) says that Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is “engaged in official oppression of primarily Latino and Black voters with the big lie of voter fraud.”

LULAC also said in a news release sent out on Monday, Sept. 2, that they are asking the U.S. Justice Department to investigate Paxton and “his agents for abuse of the elderly, cjhildren, violations of the federal Voting Rights Act of 1965 and more to be announced.”

LULAC said it will be hosting a news conferernce on Tuesday, Sept. 3 in El Paso to address its allegations.

Last week, Gov. Greg Abbott said Texas has removed more than 1 milion people from the state’s voter rolls since Senate Bill 1 went into effect in 2021.

Abbott: 1 million people purged from voter rolls since 2021

The people who have been removed have moved out of state, are dead, or are non-citizens, according to the release sent out by Abbott’s office.

Ray Mancera, national vice president for the Southwest for LULAC, will be among the speakers at Tuesday’s news conference. LULAC said that local elected and community leaders, concerned citizens and get-out-the-vote volunteers will also speak at the event.

We have reached to Paxton’s office seeking comment about the allegations.

The news conference is scheuled for noon on Tuesday outside the County Courthouse, 500 E. San Antonio St.
