EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) —  A man who is being accused of killing another man this past Sunday, March 2, in Central El Paso, allegedly tried to run over the victim more than once, according to court documents obtained by KTSM.

Police say they responded at around 9 p.m. that Sunday to the 700 block of North Piedras in reference to a pedestrian collision.

According to court documents, a witness told police that he saw Rodriguez driving a vehicle on Wyoming Street when he reversed the car and struck a fence.

The witness then saw the victim walking on the sidewalk on Wyoming Street and Rodriguez tried to hit the victim but struck several vehicles parked in the area instead, according to court documents.

The witness told police that he saw the victim try to cross the street when Rodriguez accelerated the vehicle and struck the victim, according to court documents.

Court documents say that the witness saw Rodriguez drive over the victim’s body and then continued driving a short distance before colliding with a light post at the intersection of Wyoming and Piedras.

Once officers arrived, they saw a vehicle that had collided with a light post and saw Rodriguez sitting in the driver’s seat.

Responding officers asked Rodriguez what had happened, to which Rodriguez responded that he accidentally hit the victim with his vehicle, according to court documents.

Rodriguez told police that he knew the victim for about a week and that they were hanging out earlier. Rodriguez agreed to drive the victim to the store which is when they had an argument that led to a physical altercation while they were in the car, according to court documents.

The victim has not been identified as police are waiting to notify his family.

Rodriguez was arrested for murder and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility under a $500,000 bond.
