EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 28-year-old man was arrested last week after filing a false stolen vehicle report to avoid making vehicle payments at the Coldplay concert, according to the news release by the El Paso Police Department (EPPD).
According to El Paso Police, Manuel Melendez, 28, of Horizon City, was arrested on June 20 along the 3200 block of North Mesa in West El Paso.
Melendez was charged with false report to a peace officer and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility with a $5,000 bond, El Paso Police said.
On June 14, investigators with the El Paso Police Department Auto Theft Task Force were dispatched to a reported vehicle theft, EPPD said.
According to EPPD, officers spoke with Melendez, who claimed his truck had been stolen while he was attending the Coldplay concert.
During the investigation, officers determined Melendez had “knowingly” filed a false police report to avoid making vehicle payments, El Paso Police said.
