EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A man who’s believed to be responsible for a fatal stabbing was arrested on Tuesday, Feb. 4 in Las Cruces, according to the Las Cruces Police Department.
Police say James Michael Melendrez, 31, is charged with an open count of murder after police arrived to find a 26-year-old man suffering from at least one stab wound on Tuesday on North Seventeenth Street, just south of Picacho Avenue, according to police.
Police say they were dispatched shortly before noon that Tuesday to a report of an altercation that resulted in a stabbing on North Seventeenth Street, just south of Picacho Avenue.
The 26-year-old man died at the scene. Police learned Melendrez fled from the area on foot and was later located that day on east Lohman Avenue.
Melendrez is initially being held without bond at the Dona Ana County Detention Center.
