EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 48-year-old man was arrested and charged with theft after he was suspected of stealing over $5,000 at a business in Horizon, according to the Horizon City Police Department.
Police say just after 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 18, officers responded to a theft call at a business located at the 14400 block of Horizon Boulevard.
The suspect, who was later identified as Miguel Arturo Escobar Garcia, 48, was suspected of stealing over $5,000 by swapping damaged parts and retaining proceeds that were meant to be refunded to the business.
During the investigation, officers determined that Escobar Garcia had been involved in the refund scheme for several months, in which he kept funds that were intended for the business, police said.
Escobar Garcia later confessed and admitted to retaining around $1,200 of the stolen funds, police said.
Escobar Garcia was taken into custody and booked into the El Paso County Jail on a charge of theft greater than or equal to $2,500 but under $30,000. His bond was at $7,500.
