EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 60-year-old man was arrested on Sunday, March 2 for allegedly organizing a cockfighting event after deputies found several dead roosters at a residence in Fabens, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office says Isidoro Martinez Amparan, 60, was the organizer of a cockfighting event and is facing a charge of cockfighting.
The Sheriff’s Office says deputies and the Animal Welfare Unit responded to a complaint at around 4:30 p.m. Sunday, regarding possible cockfighting at the 15600 block of North Loop Drive.
Upon arrival, deputies found several dead roosters and instruments that are associated with cockfighting. A search warrant was executed and led to the collection of cockfighting paraphernalia and the safe relocation of 16 roosters and 27 hens, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Martinez Amparan was arrested and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility under a $10,000 bond.
The Sheriff’s Office urges citizens to report any suspicious activity regarding animal cruelty to local law enforcement and also reminds the community that organizing, participating in, or even attending a cockfighting event is illegal under Texas law.
