EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 38-year-old man was arrested after an apartment complex caught on fire, resulting in the death of a dog in El Paso’s Lower Valley.
As KTSM previously reported, shortly before 1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 2, crews with the El Paso Fire Department were dispatched to a Condition 2 fire at the Marmolejo Apartments at 600 N. Carolina.


No firefighters were injured, but one dog died in the fire.
According to the news release by the El Paso Fire, a joint investigation was conducted by the El Paso Fire Marshal’s Office and the El Paso Police Department’s Mission Valley Regional Command Center, which led to the arrest of 38-year-old Manuel Cardona.

Cardona was arrested on the following charges, according to El Paso Fire:
- Assault on a public servant
- Resisting arrest, search and transport
- Harassment of public servant
On Friday, Oct. 3, Cardona was rebooked at the El Paso County Detention Facility on an additional charge of arson of habitation (first-degree felon) by the Fire Marshal’s Office, with no bond.
