EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 58-year-old man was arrested and is facing a murder charge in connection with a fatal stabbing in Central El Paso on Monday, March 11, according to court documents obtained by KTSM.
Police initially responded to a request for a welfare check at about 4:15 p.m. Monday along the 2900 block of Porter Avenue.
There, they found a man, described in court documents as being in his 30s or 40s, in an alleyway with stab wounds. The victim was taken to the hospital where he later died, police said.
The victim has not been identified.
Court documents said the victim had been stabbed multiple times with a Bowie knife.
According to court documents, 58-year-old Oscar Guzman Jr. was arrested and charged with murder.
The suspect was seen to have blood on his clothing and a witness said he observed a man discard a knife on his property.
Guzman also told officers that he had been “jumped” in the alleyway, according to court documents. When officers asked the suspect who jumped him, the suspect used an expletive and a racial slur sometimes used to describe a person of Mexican descent, according to court documents.
The suspect admitted to stabbing the victim after he had been read his rights, according to court documents. The suspect also repeatedly told police that they could shoot him or take him to jail.
