EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – The man accused of shooting and killing Alamogordo Police Officer Anthony Ferguson was sentenced Tuesday, Nov. 12 to life in prison without the possibility of parole plus an additional six and a half years, the Office of the Twelfth Judicial District Attorney announced in a news release.
This sentence follows Dominic De La O’s, 27, recent conviction by an Otero County jury, which found him guilty of first-degree murder.
The additional sentence of six and a half years reflects his convictions on additional charges including tampering with evidence, aggravated fleeing of a law enforcement officer, and criminal trespass, according to the news release.
“During Tuesday’s sentencing, hearing the court listened to powerful, emotional testimony from Officer Ferguson’s family and colleagues,” read the news release. “The prosecution also presented audio from a jail call in which De La O appeared to boast about the incident just days after Officer Ferguson’s passing.”
District Attorney Scot D. Key commended the law enforcement officers involved in the case, offering a heartfelt “Well done,” according to the news release.
Key also acknowledged the challenges they have faced — and will continue to face — as a result of Ferguson’s death.
As we previously reported, Ferguson died on Sunday, July 16, 2023, a day later after being shot on July 15, in the line of duty following a traffic stop that ended in a pursuit and shots fired.
