Posted on January 13, 2025

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 31-year-old man was killed early Sunday morning, Jan. 12 in Northeast El Paso when he was rear-ended at a red light, traveled into the intersection and was hit by a second vehicle, El Paso Police said.

Police said Cody Lewis Vaughn, 31, was killed at 7 a.m. Sunday when he was involved in a three-vehicle crash at Gateway North and Sean Haggerty.

Vaughn was stopped at the red light on Gateway North, when a pickup truck driving by Juan Manuel Padilla Rivas rear-ended Vaughn, police said.

The collision caused both vehicles to travel into the intersection where Vaughn was hit by another vehicle. Vaughn died at the scene, police said.

Police said Rivas’ failure to control his speed is the main contributing factor in the crash. They did not say if he would be facing charges.

The investigation continues.

This is the third traffic fatality so far this year in El Paso, compared to three at the same time last year.
