EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle on Sunday, Feb. 23 in East El Paso when he tried to cross an intersection against a “no-walk” signal, El Paso Police said.
Police said that 79-year-old Manuel Hidalgo Fierro was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Montwood Drive and Lake Omega Street and later died at the hospital, police said.
The crash happened just after 2:15 p.m. on Sunday. Fierro was using an “electric mobility” scooter and began to cross Montwood, police said.
At the same time, a vehicle was traveling eastbound on Montwood, approaching the intersection with Lake Omega.
Fierro crossed against a “no-walk” signal and the driver was unable to avoid him, striking him in the crosswalk, police said.
The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital where he died.
Police said the contributing factor in this crash was Fierro crossing against a “no-crossing” signal.
This is the seventh traffic fatality of 2025 compared to 10 at the same time last year.
