EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The man who died in a motorcycle crash this past Wednesday, June 4, in far East El Paso was a pastor at the Rock Faith Center, according to a statement the church released this week.
Jason Owens, 49, died after he was struck by a vehicle that Wednesday that failed to yield the right of way at a stop sign, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
The Rock Faith Center says Owens was not only a “dedicated servant of God but also a cherished friend and a vital part of our church family. His unwavering faith, compassion, and love for the Lord touched the lives of everyone he encountered.”
“As we mourn his loss, we also celebrate his life and the amazing impact he made on us all. He was that person anyone could talk to and he always had something encouraging or even humorous to say! This truly hurts, however, we find comfort in the promise of John 14:27, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” May this peace sustain his family, friends, and all us who loved him during this difficult time,” the church said.
As we have previously reported, deputies responded to the serious crash just after 7 p.m. that Wednesday at the intersection of Krag Street and Santiesteban Lane.
Preliminary findings revealed that the motorcyclist, who has been identified as Owens, was traveling northbound on Krag Street when a vehicle that was traveling eastbound on Santiesteban Lane failed to yield the right of way at a stop sign, causing the crash, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Owens was transported to a local hospital, where he later died as a result of his injuries, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Special Traffic Investigators were called to the scene, and the investigation is ongoing.
