EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Marathon Petroleum awarded $75,000 in matching funds on Monday, Oct. 13 spread across 10 El Paso area nonprofit organizations to support their work on the environment and hunger relief.
It was part of the 10th annual El Paso Giving Day.




The organizations were: Frontera Land Alliance – $15,000; 915 TreeKeepers – $10,000; Paso del Norte Trail – $10,000; EPISD Education Foundation – $10,000; Ysleta ISD/Foundation – $10,000; Desert Spoon Food Hub – $5,000; Kelly Center for Hunger Relief – $5,000; Green Hope Project – $5,000; Celebration of our Mountains – $2,500; and Junior Achievement – $2,500.
“We are grateful to Marathon Petroleum for the generous financial support they have pledged again this year to local nonprofits through El Paso Giving Day,” said Tracy J. Yellen, chief executive officer of the Paso del Norte Community Foundation. “With their $75,000 in matching funds, Marathon Petroleum is inspiring philanthropy for nonprofit organizations and doubling their impact for hunger relief and the environment.”
El Paso Giving Day was founded by the Paso del Norte Community Foundation in 2015 to shine a light on the essential services of nonprofit organizations, ignite the spirit of giving, and encourage new donors to give to local nonprofits and support the causes they care about.

We focus on contributions and partnerships with organizations such as these that reflect the priorities of our community stakeholders, align with our core values, and enable us to make a positive, measurable impact,” said Marathon’s Principal ESG and Stakeholder Engagement Representative V.J. Smith.
During El Paso Giving Day in 2024, the El Paso community made nearly 6,400 unique donations supporting 260 registered nonprofit organizations. Nearly $1.8 million was raised, including more than $525,000 in matching funds and incentive prizes.
