Posted on August 23, 2025

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The El Paso Police Department highlighted one of their “toughest and unique” K-9s, nicknamed “La Tóxica,” on Friday, Aug. 22.

Mia, a 5-year-old Dutch shepherd female who has served the department for 3 1/2 years, has earned herself the nickname through her character, according to El Paso Police.

“The only female K-9 in the unit with a nickname that perfectly fits her strong spirit,” read the social media post.

Mia’s handler is Officer Eric Ortiz and she loves to play fetch and keep the ball away from her pitbull sister.

Additionally, Mia’s favorite assignments are partnering with DPS pilots to track down subjects, earning herself a Whataburger meal.
