EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) – The community is invited to attend an “open house-style” public meeting to learn about how the region is able to pursue federal funds through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Climate Pollution Reduction Grants (CPRG) implementation grants, according to a press release sent by Barracuda PR.
The meeting will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 24 at the Chamizal Community Center and Library, 2119 Cypress.
According to the press release, to be eligible to apply for CPRG competitive implementation grants, the region must first develop and submit a Priority Climate Action Plan (PCAP) following EPA CPRG program requirements.
In addition, to qualify for this competitive grant process, the region must submit its PCAP by March 1.
“We understand that the timing to deliver the PCAP is very tight, but we also understand that the Paso Del Norte Region is well positioned to win funds for shovel-ready projects directly benefiting the community. We must seize the opportunity,” said Nicole Ferrini, of the City of El Paso’s Climate and Sustainability Office. “Our team looks forward to working with the community to identify what is most important to our people and most impactful for the region. This is an important first step in the right direction. Only together can we create an actionable roadmap with tangible results.”
Once the PCAP is finalized, emphasis will move into creating a Regional Comprehensive Climate Action Plan (CCAP).
The development of the CCAP will commence early Spring 2024 and will include a “robust” public engagement approach inclusive of residents from across the Paso Del Norte region.
With the community’s help, the city aims to release the Comprehensive Climate Action plan in Fall 2025.
Additionally, the Paso Del Norte Climate Action Plan will span an area covering 10 municipalities, 2 counties, 15 census-designated places and unincorporated communities and 5,585 square miles of territory, according to the press release.
