EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Mesilla Marshal’s Office says that they have arrested a woman who is now facing multiple charges of fraud and identity theft after she was initially arrested in Albuquerque and then transferred to the Dona Ana County Detention Center this weekend.
Denise Pedraza Webb, 44, is facing five counts of forgery, 11 counts of computer access with intent to defraud or embezzle and 12 counts of identity theft, according to the Mesilla Marshal’s Office.
She was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center on Friday, June 20, according to court records.
Webb, of Deming, was originally arrested in Albuquerque last week and placed in the Bernalillo County Detention Center, the Mesilla Marshal’s Office said.
She was transferred to Las Cruces on a district court bench warrant for failure to appear with a $2,500 bond.
The Mesilla Marshal’s Criminal Investigation unit learned about this and immediately served Webb at the local detention center.
Marshals learned that she had hired a bail bondsman, but was intercepted with a new arrest warrant stopping her release on bond, they said.
Webb went on a “crime spree” of opening bank, loan, credit card accounts, and stole $10,000 from the victim’s personal bank account after changing their bank account profile information using a false New Mexico driver’s license, the Marshal’s Office said.
The Marshal’s Office also said she used a fake driver’s license purporting to be a Mesilla resident and stole a car from a car dealership. The vehicle was recovered in Deming, the Marshal’s Office said.
Webb has an extensive criminal history of these acts, according to the Marshal’s Office.
The Mesilla Marshal’s Office said it will be filing more charges against Webb.
